Travel Diaries: Bern

Did you know that Bern is actually the capital of Switzerland? You did? Well, I sure didn't. I have always thought that Zurich was instead the heart of Switzerland, but guess I was wrong.

Switzerland sure has gotten itself the most breathtaking and serene capital, and I could almost get drunk on Bern. Be prepared for tons of scenic shots!

The majestic view of the Alps from our hotel!!! I'd love to wake up to such a view every morning.

(They actually have live bears kept inside the fenced area underground but I guess they were all hibernating since we didn't manage to catch them in action.........)

(Sales at H&M!!!)

(Best fried shrimps with Thai sweet chilli that I've ever tasted)

Stopped by the Château de Chillon on our way back! This castle is actually built on an a separate island, located on the shore of Lake Geneva. Basically it's a castle that's not located on mainland soil.

(I don't know, these late Europeans have a fetish with castles like they just decide to build them randomly because they felt like it????)

Finally got to try out Europe's Asian cuisine... Here we have, in clockwise direction: Mapo Tofu, chicken thigh udon, red curry chicken and green curry chicken (because we can't decide on either and got both in the end). Taste-wise they could use wayyyyyy more spiciness - Definitely can't be compared to the authentic ones we have in Asia, but still a good break from Western cuisines for a fortnight. Price-wise....... This simple meal costed us around 80 sgd you tell me if it's worth it.

Gorgeous light-ups from yet another Christmas market that we patronised. One of the largest!

I remember telling my sister a pun on the name Bern the night before we got there - "And we gonna let it Bern, Bern, Bern" (Ellie Goulding) - and guess what, Bern actually experienced a huge fire which devastated the entire city, except for the clocktower located right in the heart of the city. You would've seen it as you scrolled past the pictures taken in the city proper. What an appropriate pun!!!!!!

Nonetheless, I was nothing less than impressed by Switzerland, in fact I enjoyed the former more than my time in Italy or France. I even made a mental note to put Switzerland as one of the top ten places that I would want to visit for my honeymoon. It's such a romantic place, yet different from cities like Paris/Venice, peaceful, putting even the most troubled hearts at ease. Lovely.

So much love,
