Here are my previous entries: HK Day 1 - Shen Zhen, HK Day 2 - Disneyland Part 1/2
So yes, as can be derived from the title, we visited Ocean Park on our third day of the Hong Kong vacation! For my family, Ocean Park is a must go theme park coz my mom loves marine life and water shows and Ocean Park specialises in all those! She insisted that we include the theme park in our itinerary so here it is!
Let us start the brilliant morning off with a picture of my dad, with his cup of freshly brewed coffee, overlooking the sea view outside :)
I didn't snap any shots of breakfast coz we just bought ourselves some simple street food and munched on the way.
And here we are at Ocean Park! It's a significantly older theme park compared to Disneyland so the exterior really isn't the most magnificent.
OOTD
I was pretty annoyed at the need to lug a huge bag along but then as tourists we all need our trusty bottle of water, phone, poncho, and in the context of a chilly country, an additional jacket. So yes, unable to run away from the bag :'(
I still have the groggy look =_=
Little children on school trip spotted! These kiddos get to go to theme parks for their field trips!! What ever happened to my field trip to USS?!?!
While the folks are getting the tickets.......
I braved the overhead waters!
And we enter the park!!!
Chanced upon adorable Mr Penguin whilst on our way to board the cable car :)
Played with some remote controlled boats in a mini river!
Had to past through this quaint little street - Old Hong Kong! I thought the set up looked pretty cool! More about it later!
Off we go~ Even though I have height fright but I still like to thrill myself by looking down from high places. It's just me that's weird right........?
The rides on the mountain top are the more exhilarating rides that are more suited for the brave souls! *Ahem* Which is why we are heading up there first!
In case you didn't know, Ocean Park is being built on two different mountains, so in order to get from one mountain to other you'd have to board the cable car or the Ocean express (boring!). But there seems to be some construction going on on the land between the two mountains to perhaps the park might be expanded in few years' time?
There aren't many Christmas-themed decorations there so here's the only Christmas related shot that we took.
The HairRaiser coaster ride is supposedly the scariest one in the park...... I rode the blue coaster beside it.
Too weak-hearted to try that out.. YOLO doesn't work for me *sighs*
Check out the happy Daddy in his bumper car!
One of my favourite rides since young.... Flying swings! I became obsessed with it after trying it in Genting when I was three? Four?
On board the spinning-coaster ride. I really have no idea of the name of rides like this but they are sure fun!!
Rare occasion when my dad is not afraid to try exhilarating rides :)
After clearing most of the rides (obviously not all shown and mentioned), we proceeded to check out the penguins and polar bears!
There they are all waddling away!!! Pity that they don't have an exhibition area designated for the penguin chicks :'(
Suddenly recalled a joke from tumblr about penguins: The worst part about being a penguin is after you're in an argument, you'll try to waddle away angrily but still look adorably cute.
SO TRUE
I can haz plush penguin chick toy!
I wanted to get one of these home but I really couldn't make up my mind on which to get..... We're not just facing a trilemma here - It's a huge internal fight between whatever you choose VS every other keychain that's available on sale!!!!!! T.T
Next up - Polar bears!
Didn't manage to see any though........ Instead there were seals in their place :O
Kinda ironic coz aren't polar bears predators of seals??? And here they are situated as guardians of the seal exhibition???
I wasn't very fascinated with them
Saw little statues of snow foxes outside the polar bear-seal exhibition!! Didn't manage to catch them live though :(
This shot of the lil sis looks like she's underwater!!
Coaster ride again... Can you spot me?
It was a cool ride! Went on it like three times continuously - Thank goodness there wasn't any crowd that day!
The Ferris Wheel (in my opinion) goes faster than most of the other ferris wheels.
We were just in time for the dolphin show!
On a side note, one thing that I dislike about Ocean Park is that there is so much walking!!! We had to walk up this winding pathway in order to get to the destination for the dolphin show. But not that we can do anything about it - The park's situated on mountains!
Back to the dolphin show~
Well-coordinated trio!
I like dolphins. They're such friendly and smart marine chaps :)
After the show, we made our way down via the cable car for more rides and exhibition viewing.
This was located right beside the cable car station so we visited it as well :)
I don't really like viewing jellyfishes............... They're all mushy and weird looking...... Gives me the creeps.
Having them coloured doesn't make looking at them feel any better but since I have them in all colours might as well collage them up!
Along the streets of Old Hong Kong! All the bird cages make a unique backdrop!
This shot of my mom looks super good! I have this weird liking for old and quaint stuff like streets of the olden days. They fascinate me!
Guess what are we doing?
Keep guessing you're almost there......
Tadah! I got myself a temporary tattoo LOL. On my wrist.
A closer shot of my tattoo. It's a picture of a mermaid and it vanished within a fortnight... HKD 30 for two weeks isn't too bad :)
I felt awkward walking around with it though.
Proceeded to check out Hong Kong's pandas!
If I remember correctly, this dude's name is Le Le. He's been a really good fella by just sitting there and eating his bamboo leafs so we could snap clear pictures of him!
Whereas the other one Ying Ying was being really temperamental by walking one round around its area and went back into hiding for the rest of the time.
I prefer these fellas! They're called red pandas but their frame is so much cuter than black-and-white pandas *laughs*
What a big panda plush toy!!! Definitely cost a bomb :O
Lucky us that chanced upon Mr Shark mascot so we took a family shot with him :)
I like this shot of the goldfish that I snapped! We carried on to the goldfish exhibition area!
One more shot of some oriental looking goldfish
This shot was taken for us by a fellow Singaporean at the exotic sea creatures exhibition!
Always nice to meet our own people at foreign countries :)
Only animal that didn't creep me out there.... Leaf seahorse.
After all the exhibitions and rides....... Our day at Ocean Park was kinda concluded but we had to march into a random souvenir shop and play with their toys.
I'm 17 going 18 and I'm still fascinated with toys like robotic arms and I'm not ashamed of it *proud*
Lil sis with her favourite dolphins. She has at least three of these dolphin plushies at home!
After our playtime at the souvenir store we finally made our way out of Ocean Park.... For shopping!
Super convenient bus service that'll take us straight to the nearest MTR station.
We're heading down to the most popular shopping district in Hong Kong, Mong Kok!
Bustling with life!!!!!! I wish Singapore had streets like these :'(
Randomly hopped into an eatery for dinner, and I tasted the best fried rice in my entire life.
My mom and I had the same fried rice, and we were so pleasantly surprised by its taste despite its appearance!!
What is so special about the fried rice? As can be seen the dish doesn't look like the normal kind of fried rice that we buy from the tze cha stores - It doesn't contain roasted pork or eggs. Instead, the dish was piled up with the famous HK lap cheung (waaxed duck), egg whites and some vegetable that was fried to crispy perfection. I'm not a vegetable person, in fact I'm more of a carnivore but I enjoyed and cleared every last bit of the vegetables in that plate of goodness coz the vegetables makes the entire dish so refreshing!!! Can you imagine yourself feeling the crunch of the vegetable in every spoonful of rice, coupled with the saltiness from the lap cheung?!?!?!
I know I may exaggerating but I could almost shed a tear at the goodness of the fried rice. *sniffs*
After the satisfying meal we carried on with our main agenda - Shopping!
Initially I had wanted to go to Fa Yuen Street (also in Mong Kok) to get my Dr Martens but the orientation of this street was too complicated for us to comprehend. There are two Fa Yuen Streets - One for apparels and another for shoes, and they are located at opposite ends of the Mong Kong crossroad. The one for shoes is called Sneaker street, but most of the Hong Kong-ers don't really know of that name and so they kinda pointed us into opposite directions..................
In the end we tried our luck but sadly we ended up at the wrong street, the one selling apparels instead. But it wasn't too bad coz we bought stuff there too and since it was already pretty late, there weren't many people on the streets too! Totally brings out the leisure in shopping :)
The entire street is somewhat like Bugis Street, just with a cooler weather and more quirky items!
Remember what I said about stores selling mostly knitted and long-sleeved clothing??? The entire street was filled with them! All of extremely trendy designs and prints but not wearable in the Singapore weather.
Nonetheless I bought my red skater skirt there! (Wore it in my Nikon 1 J2 contest entry here) One important shopping tip: Since they are mostly stores there and there are not many pushcarts selling apparels, it's almost impossible to bargain coz most stores have fixed prices. However, most of the stores are selling similar items and the deeper you walk into the street, the cheaper the clothing!!!!!!!
I learnt that the extremely hard way - my skater skirt cost me HKD 90, but I saw the exact same thing selling at HKD 40 deeper in the street, and a similar PVC skater skirt at HKD 65. I feel (because I still do) so dumb and cheated :'(
Also, there are stores selling accessories as well, similar to the ones sold at Bugis Street and Cine but only a fraction of the price! Lots of neon spiked bracelets, leather wristbands etc.
Best buy from the stash of accessories - Beaded rainbow bracelet! Cost me HKD 10 only!
The day ended on a high note (C'mon shopping without having to dive in to masses after masses of people is the life man) and that kinda concludes the third day of our Hong Kong trip!
Till my next entry on the our last day in Hong Kong, adios! Mini sightseeing trip and a massive shopping one. We got our priorities set right yo!
