No idea what was I so hysterical about... Probably because we're finally heading to France, but that's saved for the final Europe entry. They say the best is always served last, right?
Anyway, before making our way to France we stopped by Geneva for a short sight-seeing trip and also to do some last minute shopping before we leave gorgeous Switzerland. Bet you didn't know that the United Nations is located right here in Geneva, eh?
Broken Chair - Located right opposite of the Palace of Nations and it symbolises opposition towards land mines and cluster bombs.
(Slightly excited upon being at the organisation that I've been studying about for at least two years)
(Ok maybe this is why I'm related to them)
Took a four-hour drive down towards France, where we visited the Château de Fontainebleau, the largest royal palace in France. It was majestic - Decorated ever so intricately with paintings, sculptures and chandeliers, and was literally overflowing with the scent of royalty.
Napoleon's throne room
I felt my heart wrench a little at his devotion towards Josephine; he divorced her for an heir with Marie Louise but he never forgot her, and always saw her as the Empress of France. His dying breath: "France, the Army, the Head of the Army, Joséphine." and I can't help but feel that beneath all his bravado as France's greatest military leader he's ultimately just a romantic man hopelessly in love with his first love.
Love letters are something that we seriously need to bring back into the modern world of love
Before visiting the Fountainebleau I'd probably have known nada about Napoleon but after this I'm feeling extremely inclined to know more about his history...... And his love letters to Josephine. How can a ruler of practically the entire Europe be so into a woman that he writes about missing her every other day???
France is really so much more than just Lovers in Paris.
Much love,
